Apartment Assignments Coordinator
I do this work because as a first generation college student, I didn't feel like I
had the resources I needed to help me along the way. It wasn't just my first time
going to college, it was the first time for anyone in my family. This meant there
was no one to guide me through each step. I like to be a point of contact for students
who may be struggling with the processes of being a first time college student.
"I learned the importance of a close-knit community. Living on campus, I was never far from a friend and the opportunities to make new friends were endless. After leaving campus and living off campus for several years, I realized how difficult it was to connect with people when I wasn't living in close proximity to them." -Sarah
My favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is the parade grounds. When the weather is nice, it is so relaxing to hang out on the parade grounds reading, listening to music, catching up with a friend, or just enjoying being outside.
My favorite thing to do in Baton Rouge
My favorite thing to do in Baton Rouge is to explore and try out new local restaurants. Once you really start to look, there are so many unique and amazing options in Baton Rouge aside from the typical chain restaurants that everyone has had a million times.
One thing first-year students should know
Talk to people from different majors and explore classes outside of your major! I didn't realize until it was too late that Psychology was not the best path for me. I wish I had at least explored other options when I still had the chance.
