Shayla Schumacher
Academic Success Coordinator
When I was a freshmen, I joined a Living Learning Community and it allowed me to instantly build a home on campus and were I fit into the puzzle. My goal is to help make our freshmen feel at home and that they have a strong support network of peers, staff, and faculty.
"Your experience is what you make of it! There are countless opportunities and ways to get involved and meet new people, it is up to you to put yourself out there!" -Shayla
Advice for incoming first-year students
It is okay to not have everything planned out. You will meet new people and learn about new ideas and opportunities and may change your plan. That is okay! That is what college is all about.
The place to be in Baton Rouge
LSU Botanical Gardens and Rural Life Museum. I love history and going to museums, the botanical gardens are also a beautiful place to go and walk my dog.
My favorite spot on campus
Mike's Habitat! I was the little kid growing up that watched Animal Planet and knew all the animal facts. I love visiting Mike and seeing him go for a swim.
