The 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, Ltd. and the LSU Office of Strategic Initiatives co-sponsor the ACT Prep Academy for 10th – 12th graders each fall and spring.
The purpose of the Academy is to inform families on the higher education preparation process, familiarize students with the structure and format of the ACT, support subject content with test-taking tips and strategies to improve their composite ACT score to receive TOPS, and build confidence within students when taking the ACT. The Spring ACT Prep Academy consists of two major components: Parent/Student Orientation and ACT Prep instruction.
The ACT Prep Instruction an intense 8-week session beginning with a pre-assessment, followed by classes in English, Reading, Math, and Science, and completed with a post assessment. Students are required to take the mandatory pre- and post assessments and register for the official ACT specified by the academy to participate (no exceptions). These mock exams are administered to identify strengths and weaknesses and allow an opportunity for an increased personalized experience to meet each students’ needs. All classes are taught by trained instructors, and includes supplemental online modules to support the in-class lessons. All curriculum and materials are provided by MasteryPrep, LLC.
Classes meet twice a week at your choice of one of two sites: Southern University or LSU 6:00pm – 7:30pm
