Important Change to Holiday Schedule
December 22, 2025
Dear LSU Colleagues,
As we approach the close of the year, I want to thank you for the work you do each day on behalf of our students, our state, and one another. I hope this holiday season brings you time to rest, reconnect with loved ones, and reflect on the many good things we share as a university community.
I’m writing with good news about the upcoming holiday schedule. Governor Jeff Landry recently issued Proclamation 74 JML 2025, which declares Friday, January 2, 2026, a legal state holiday. With gratitude to the Governor for recognizing the importance of family time during this season, I have approved the necessary LSU system policy adjustments so that our employees can enjoy this day off as well.
Accordingly, the LSU system will observe Friday, January 2, 2026, as an additional university holiday. For employees in essential operations and units that must remain open, campus leadership and supervisors will provide guidance on scheduling and coverage consistent with operational needs. The Office of Academic Affairs will provide guidance to faculty who are teaching Wintersession classes.
Thank you again for everything you do for LSU. On behalf of the entire leadership team, I wish you and your family a peaceful holiday season and a healthy, happy New Year.
