Placement Exams for Incoming Freshmen

Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters and Welcome Week

For Summer and Welcome Week Testing, the LSU Testing Center will offer Placement exams and the NexGen Writing exam. Please see the chart below for additional details about each of the exams, including dates/times the exams will be available.

Welcome Week Testing Hours:

Monday – Wednesday – 9am to 4pm (CST) Closing at 4pm means all tests must end at 4pm (CST).

Thursday – Friday – 8am to 4:30pm (CST). Closing at 4:30pm means all tests must end at 4:30pm (CST).

Placement Exams: Algebra, Calculus, French, German, Latin, Spanish, Trigonometry.
NexGen Writing Exam: an English diagnostic exam required for students who do not have English ACT/SAT Scores.

Please keep in mind, students may only take each specific placement exam one time.

Log in with your LSU username and password
Choose Group - select "Placement Exams (incoming freshmen)"
Choose Exam - select exam you wish to schedule (please see the chart above for specific exam details)
Exam Description - review details and requirements for your particular exam
Choose a Date - select from available dates
Choose a Time - select from available times
Click "Add to Cart"
Review your exam selection and/or add additional exams using the "+Add Another Exam" button
Click "Complete Registration" to finish registering

Placement exams will take place in the LSU Testing Center located in the basement of Himes Hall. The entrance is located between Coates Hall and Himes Hall.

Students may only take each specific placement examination one time.
Students should consider consulting with an Academic Advisor to determine the need to take a placement/credit by examination.
